MORIOKA SHIZUE

Outei Kaneko (1906-2001) who is known as a recipient of the Order and Culture built a foundation of Japanese calligraphy after the war, creating new genre called calligraphy of modern poetry. A judge of the world largest calligraphy community “Sogen” in General Incorporated Association, which was established by him, and executive of “Mainichi-Shodo-Kai” in General Incorporated Foundation. Studied under Takayoshi Kaneko who was a son of Outei and the president of Koho-sya. Currently learn under Kaizan Watanabe who is in charge of Koho-sya following Takayoshi.

Born in Kita district, Tokyo. Start calligraphy in younger childhood, learned theory and technique of kanji (Chinese character) in Tsukuba University by Ryosetsu Imai and kana (one of the Japanese alphabets) by Suitei Murakami after graduation. 

 

Now, have opened calligraphy class in Tokyo (Ginza, Shinokubo, Akbane and Yukigaya-Otsuka) and Saitama for educating next generation and introducing Japanese calligraphy to overseas as a great art form. 

Also, organize a contemporary performance group “Morikurayuri”with two members  that combine Asian traditional culture, calligraphy, music instrument and dance.
